Training on Sustainable Development Goal monitoring framework and labour market indicators and concepts

On 7th and 8th May 2019 in Ha Noi, the International Labour Organization, the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour jointly organize the training workshop on labour and employment indicators in the Viet Nam SDG statistical indicators (VSDGI).

Among the 158 indicators in the VSDGI list, there are 23 related to labour and employment. In order to achieve them, VGCL and VCCI must act as key partners of the government of Viet Nam. Workers’ representatives can contribute substantially to achieving the SDGs through social dialogue and through workers’ awareness raising. Employers can make a direct contribution to sustainable development goals through their business choices and practices.

At the regional and global levels, workers’ and employers’ organizations have participated actively in shaping the SDG framework and in the reporting that has been done so far. The main question for Viet Nam is how VGCL and VCCI are to be involved in the monitoring and reporting of results at the national level. The effectiveness of your contribution will depend on your knowledge of the SDGs and your proactive contribution.

This training aims at equipping participants with knowledge about: SDG monitoring frameworks and SDG indicators related to labour and employment; and key labour market information definitions and concepts. Participants also had a chance to discuss directly with representatives from the Ministry of Labour on how they are going to collaborate with the government in monitoring SDGs in Viet Nam.
