Capacity Building for Cooperatives, Small and Micro Businesses in Quang Nam Province in Applying ILO’s SBC Training Manuals on Home-stay, Handicraft and Restaurant

This ILO-produced training package has been piloted in some ASEAN countries. In April 2015, the package was introduced to stakeholders in Viet Nam in a workshop jointly organized by ILO tourism-related projects and Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT)

Background

One of the main reasons for low competitiveness of small and micro businessesin tourism sector in Quang Nam Province is that workers/employers of those businesses do not have opportunity to participate in training courses of any kind. This is a common problem of all the micro and small businesses in Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), for which the ILO ASEAN programme produced a trainer-less training package for small businesses in tourism called “Small Business Competiveness” Training Package (SBC). The concept of this trainer-less training package is that workers/employers in small and micro businesses can easily learn the necessary skills by themselves through group discussion with facilitation from an expert.

After having piloted in some other countries in Asia, this training package will be introduced to workers/employers from micro and small businesses in tourism sector in Quang Nam province by Quang Nam Cooperative Alliance (representative for owners of micro and small businesses and also ILO’s constituent in Viet Nam) with an aim for possible extensive deployment of the package in Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam provinces later.

Objective

The objective is to provide capacity building with practical essential skills in Home stay, Handicraft and Restaurant for cooperatives, small and micro businesses in Quang Nam Province, leading to competitiveness improvement for this group of businesses in tourism sector. The skills are described in the SBC Training Package.

Participants

Each training course consists 30 participants from cooperatives, small and micro businesses in Quang Nam
