HANOI (ILO News) – Sixteen prizes were given to the best out of more than 100 entries from nearly 70 media outlets across the country competing for the national journalism award on preventing child labour.

They include two second prizes, six third prizes and eight fourth prizes but no first prize was given as planned as there was no outstanding work.

The second prizes went to Vietnamnet journalists Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tranh and Nguyen Thi Thao for their story “Shattered life changing dreams of border children” and to the monthly Nhan Dan journalists – Ho Cuc Phuong, Phung Nguyen and Xuan Quynh – for their series of articles entitled “Preventing child labour”.

The award was an initiative of the Viet Nam Journalists Association, the Child Affairs Department under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Viet Nam.

Launched on 10 June 2019 on the occasion of the World Day against Child Labour, it aims to encourage journalism of high quality in raising public awareness and mobilizing the participation of the society in the fight against child labour in Viet Nam.
