    This project aims to address occupational safety and health (OSH) in hazardous industries in Viet Nam, strengthen national OSH systems in line with the on-going national OSH programmes, and improve OSH standards at workplace level.

    Improving occupational safety and health systems in Central Asia

    1 January 2007 - 31 December 2012

    The project adddresses the urgent need for international support to the Central Asian countries in the endeavour to reinforce the national systems and programmes on occupational safety and health (OSH), particularly in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. This support is needed to systematically improve the working conditions and environment.

    Improving safety and health at work through a Decent Work Agenda

    1 January 2010 - 31 December 2012

    The project was developed by the ILO and the European Commission to better address safety and health at work as a vital component of decent work. It will be implemented over two and a half years between 2010 and 2012 in five pilot countries. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to a more inclusive and productive society through a reduction in occupational accidents and work-related diseases.

    ILO Programme on Occupational Safety and Health and the Environment in the Caribbean

    The Programme to support governments as well as employers' and workers' organizations in their efforts to improve OSH at the enterprise and national levels and to contribute to environmental sustainability of Small Island Developing States.


  1. From theory and platitudes to conviction and action

    Linking safety and health at work to sustainable economic development

    1 December 2009 - 31 December 2011

    The focus of the project will be on developing global products to support national and local level actions to help prevent human suffering, exclusion from the labour market, and economic costs to employers and governments. Guided by the provisions of C.187 and priorities identified by constituents in the Decent Work Country Programmes (DWCPs) framework and country priority outcomes, the project will support efforts in creating a preventive safety and health culture and a systems approach to occupational safety and health (OSH). This takes on added importance in the present global crisis, which could undermine any efforts in the OSH field.

    Capacity building and the promotion of occupational safety and health standards have led to the creation of green jobs in Fiji’s waste management sector.

    Improving job quality in Africa (WISE programme)

    1 June 2008 - 28 February 2010

    This project began in June 2008 and will be completed in February 2010. Funded by DANIDA, the project has worked together with governments, employers and unions in Mozambique and Tanzania to improve the working conditions of men’s and women’s work in the formal and informal economy. Key project activities have included the adaptation and application of a survey tool on working conditions and the completion of national policy and legal reviews, leading to the publication of national profiles on working conditions for both project countries. In addition, the project has developed and piloted extension modules and guides for the WISE training programme, now published as a WISE+ package.
