Aida Awel Profile

Ms. Aida Awel is the Chief Technical Adviser on a “Development of a Tripartite Framework for the Support and Protection of Ethiopian and Somali Women Domestic Migrant Workers to the GCC States, Lebanon and Sudan” project based in Addis Ababa, in the ILO Country Office for Ethiopia & Somalia. She possesses both international and national exposure in research and training, legal analysis and project management with the ILO for over 11 years. During her experience, she has covered 14 countries including the Horn of Africa, and worked closely with the AU, the UNECA and the Regional Economic Communities (REC’s) on the Decent Work Agenda.

Since 2010, she has supported TC programmes and projects in Somalia and part of the TC portfolio in Ethiopia. She was also involved in the development of the Employment for Peace strategy paper for the Horn of Africa. Recently, she was also involved in the development of the first and second generation of the DWCP and UNDAF for Ethiopia which responds directly to the Ethiopia development strategy.

Ms. Awel holds an MBA in International Business and LLB in law and says that her technical knowledge and methodological skills are a reflection of her background and experience which has contributed to her understanding and abilities in supporting constituents in the application of different Conventions and Recommendations. In addition to her academic achievements, she has participated in a number of useful trainings within different fields including gender, RBM, project management etc.
