Development of Training Strategy for Labour Inspectors in India
09 March 2010
A national workshop on "Development of Training Strategy for Labour Inspectors in India" took place in New Delhi on 9-10 March, 2010. The participants discussed and agreed on a national and states' training plan of action for labour inspectors. The workshop was organised by LAB/ADMIN in cooperation with the ILO Delhi Office, ITC-ILO and the Indian Training Institute VVGIRI.

“Labour Administration and Policy: Responding to the Economic Crisis”

Training program on labour inspection
22 December 2009
The ILO organized a training program on labour inspection from the 6th to 10th December in Sana’a, within the Norwegian project “Enhancing Labour Inspection Effectiveness”, for 32 participants of the labour and OSH inspectors, the social security inspectors and the social partners. The main topics of the training were the International Labour Standards, the national labour legislation, best practices and procedures of labour inspection, the role of social dialogue in promoting labour standard and occupational safety and health.

National Symposium on labour inspection
14 December 2009
The National Symposium was held at the request of the Chinese labour inspection authorities to discuss the main action to be undertaken by Chinese inspectorates to strengthen their labour inspection institutions. It was also an opportunity to discuss further collaboration with the ILO. The meeting was organized by ILO Beijing with LAB/ADMIN collaboration.

Labour Administration and Labour Inspection: future challenges and trends.

Labour Administration/Inspection meeting 30 Nov. - 4 Dec. with the aim of discussing and launching LAB/ADMIN Global Products and activities for the next biennium. The LAB/ADMIN team and different specialists on labour administration and inspection around the world are holding in Madrid (Spain) a high level meeting. As main product, the new ILO Labour Inspection Program elaborated with the ILO/ITC a new training product that will be discussed and validated.

Second conference of regional Alliance of labour inspection of South East Europe, Azerbaijan and Ukraine.

Following it's activities to strengthen networking and alliances among labour inspection and labour administration systems, LAB/ADMIN jointly with SRO Budapest office has participated in the above mentioned event. Subjects such as Undeclared work, coordinated labour inspection, risk assessment and occupational accident prevention were discussed and some majors follow up points were concluded. Technical workshop on labour inspection and undeclared work

The Labour Administration and Inspection Programme (LAB/ADMIN) in collaboration with other Technical Units such as MIGRANT, DECLARATION and the ILO Sub Regional office in Budapest is organising a national technical meeting on labour inspection and undeclared work. This is going to be held in Budapest from the 29 to 30 of October 2009. We would like to invite you to take part in this meeting and to share with your views and your experiences.

Maritime Labour Convention
Norway ratifies ILO Maritime Labour Convention
10 February 2009
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, H.E. Ms. Angell-Hansen, today deposited the instrument of ratification of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, with the International Labour Organization on behalf of her Government. Norway is the first European country to ratify the Convention.

Labour is not a commodity and markets must serve people. Nearly 90 years ago the protection of workers’ lives and health was set out as a key objective in the founding charter of the Organization. Today, rapid technological change and a fast-paced and globalized economy bring new challenges and pressures for all areas of the world of work. Safety and health remain integral elements of the ILO’s Decent Work Agenda.

Combating child labour: Lessons from the Turkish labour inspection experience

Over the last two years, more than 4,000 children and youth in three Turkish provinces have been withdrawn or prevented from entering the worst forms of child labour thanks to a labour inspection project launched by the ILO's International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC). Now, IPEC partners in South Eastern Europe and Central Asia are seeking ways of sharing what they learned more widely.

Occupational safety and health in Kazakhstan: A model for Central Asia13 June 2006
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, working conditions in Kazakhstan deteriorated much the same way as in other former Soviet republics. In the 1990s, more than 3,000 occupational accidents were registered officially each year, causing the death of more than 300 workers.
