Reporting on forced labour and fair recruitment: An ILO toolkit for journalists in Uganda

The ILO has facilitated adaptation of its global media toolkit on reporting on forced labour and fair recruitment, for use in Uganda. The toolkit is designed to help journalists and other media practitioners in Uganda to effectively report on labour migration and promote fair recruitment practices.

In 2020, ILO launched a global Media Toolkit for reporting on forced Labour and Fair Recruitment to strengthen media engagement on issues of labour migration. The toolkit is a useful resource for journalists, providing a guide for media professionals on how to report accurately and effectively on forced labour and fair recruitment issues.

Within the framework of the FAIRWAY programme, the toolkit has been successfully contextualized and adapted for use in Uganda, through a participatory process that involved ILO’s social partners, media practitioners, relevant UN agencies and civil society organizations (CSOs).

The toolkit aims to support the production of quality reporting on forced labour and fair recruitment issues. It further aims to help relevant institutions to take forward media training and outreach.
