Gender Mainstreaming at the Labour Market of Ukraine and Role of the Public Employment Service

This report is the outcome of the project on Gender Mainstreaming in the Public Employment Service of Ukraine (PES), initiated by the ILO Decent Work Technical Support Team and Country Office for Central and Eastern Europe in Budapest within the large-scale project "Gender Equality in the World of Work," implemented in Ukraine by the ILO and co-funded by the European Union and the ILO. The main objective of the project is to develop an action plan for the Public Employment Service (PES) of Ukraine to improve its capacity in developing and implementing gender-sensitive labour market policies, programmes and services. The project also aims to ensure that the PES proactively encourages equal outcomes regarding male and female employment and vertical and horizontal gender desegregation of the labour market.

The ILO Summit on the Global Jobs Crisis was held on 15-17 June 2009 in Geneva, in response to the financial crisis and its grave impact on global unemployment, poverty and inequality. Addressed by Heads of State and Government, Vice-Presidents, Ministers and leaders of workers' and employers' organizations from around the world, the Summit featured three days of intense debate on different aspects of the crisis.
