The webinar on "Co-construction of SSE public policies: From the local to the global" was organized on 17 June 2020 by the Intercontinental Network for the Promotion of Social and Solidarity Economy (RIPESS International), as part of its webinar series that aims to promote the role of SSE organizations in addressing global challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

The three speakers presented on the co-construction of SSE public policies at local, national and international levels: Vic Van Vuuren, Chair of UNTFSSE and Director of ILO’s Enterprises Department; Laurence Kwark, Secretary General of Global Social Economy Forum (GSEF); and Madani Coumare, President of RAESS – RIPESS Africa.

In his intervention, Mr Van Vuuren highlighted some initiatives of UNTFSSE at the international level intended to facilitate the formation of SSE public policies, including the advocacy on a possible UN resolution on SSE, a joint proposal for a global SSE development programme, and the creation of a knowledge hub. He also emphasized the importance of promoting education on the SSE model especially for youth and creating linkages between SSE initiatives and local economic development. Reflecting on the mainstreaming of the SSE as part of national strategic plans, he introduced an ILO project in South Africa where the government together with social partners has been developing a macro-level policy on the SSE and connecting it to the national development plan.

The event brought together around 50 participants from around the world who engaged with the speakers through the Q&A session. The recording of the webinar is available here.
