On March 12 2019, Serbia has become the 17th country to ratify the Safety and Health in Agriculture Convention, 2001 (No. 184), joining in the ILO Centenary Ratification Initiative.
The Convention No. 184 is one of the sectoral occupational safety and health (OSH) instruments aiming to provide agricultural workers with the rights and levels of protection similar to workers in other sectors, regardless of their employment status. This marks a significant step towards building and strengthening a preventative safety and health culture in the agriculture sector characterized by its particularly hazardous nature. Together with the Labour Inspection (Agriculture) Convention, 1969 (No. 129) which has been ratified by Serbia, Convention No. 184 contributes to the creation of an enabling environment for strengthening OSH preventive and protective measures in the sector with one of the largest workforce in the country.
