The Republic of the Sudan is marking the ILO’s centenary with the ratification of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended (MLC, 2006). By depositing with the International Labour Office the instrument of ratification of the MLC, 2006 on 4 October 2019, Sudan joins the universal efforts to improve working and living conditions for seafarers and ensure a level playing field for shipowners.

The MLC, 2006 is the fourth pillar of the international regulatory regime for the maritime sector, alongside the three Conventions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), namely the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping (STCW).

The MLC, 2006 will enter into force for Sudan on 4 October 2020, that is one year after its ratification. For further information, please visit the MLC, 2006 webpage.
