Increased efforts will be needed to ensure that robust regulatory frameworks are in place across the region when the AEC is scheduled to commence in 2015

    On year after the Rana Plaza Building Collapse, the ILO Bureau for Workers' Activities will organise a panel discussion on 28th April, to pay tribute to the memory of the victims of this tragedy, which killed 1138 workers and injured over 2000 others.

  7. South Asia Labour Conference 2014: Fostering regional cooperation for Decent Work

    ILO Islamabad provided technical support to the Government of Punjab, Labour & Human Resource Department in organizing a 3-day ‘South Asia Labour Conference’. Purpose of the conference is to strengthen regional cooperation for promoting Decent Work in South Asia. The conference discussed seven thematic areas of common interest for South Asian countries. More than 300 delegates from Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan participated in the conference.

  8. Workshop on the Fair Recruitment Initiative

    On the 23rd and 24th of April 2014, the ILO Special Action Programme to combat Forced Labour (SAPFL), in collaboration with the ILO’s Labour Migration Branch (MIGRANT) and the International Training Centre in Turin, hosted a first consultative workshop on the ILO Fair Recruitment Initiative (FRI) under the auspices of the Global Migration Group (GMG), which is currently chaired by ILO.

  9. Workshop on the Fair Recruitment Initiative

    This workshop aims at reviewing and discussing recent evidence on the nexus between recruitment, labour migration and human trafficking. The overall framework and objectives of the “Fair Recruitment Initiative” will also be discussed, including benchmarks for Fair Recruitment based on International Standards and the development of policy guidance. The meeting is held under the auspices of the Taskforce on Migration and Decent Work of the Global Migration Group (GMG), which is chaired by the ILO in 2014.
