Better Work Regional Buyer Forum

The Forum address top concerns such as revisions to the Vietnam Labor Code and Trade Union Law; the current state of industrial disputes – including wildcat strikes – in the industry; information on impacts of the program to date, and a range of issues related to program services and delivery.

5-8 September,, 2011 in Hue City, Viet Nam

Representatives from international garment buyers participated in a four-day buyers’ forum, focused on Better Factories Cambodia, Better Work Vietnam, and region-wide Better Work issues. The Forum addressed top concerns such as revisions to the Vietnam Labor Code and Trade Union Law; the current state of industrial disputes – including wildcat strikes – in the industry; information on impacts of the program to date, and a range of issues related to program services and delivery.

The regional day is a direct follow up to discussions held with buyers in Hong Kong in May. During those meetings, buyers created a series of sub-groups focused on the issues of management systems, subcontracting, service quality, and buyer collaboration at the factory level. Each of those buyer-led sub-groups had been working during three months on concrete proposals for action that will be considered at the meetings in Phnom Penh.
