Statement | 27 November 2014
Dear jury, distinguished guests,

I feel very honoured and grateful to receive today, on behalf of the International Labour Organization and its staff, this prestigious prize.

The 25th Anniversary Super Vector, as I have learnt, is a unique award for outstanding achievements that have brought significant benefits to the whole country of Poland, its economy, political and social relations, and for creating conditions that are conducive to the development of Polish entrepreneurship.

As I said in my earlier statement this afternoon, there has been a close and productive relationship between ILO and Poland since almost a century. Over the past 25 years, the ILO, within its sphere of competence on labour and social matters, has sought to support its tripartite constituents in Poland on their way to democracy and a social market economy. If the results of this co-operation have been successful and the respective ILO contribution has been appreciated, which is of course very gratifying to hear, I think this has been for mainly three reasons: First, the ILO's mandate for social justice. Secondly, the ILO's specific tripartite structure – we bring together the representatives not just of governments but of employers and the working people. And thirdly, our means of action – they are multiple but amongst them I think the setting and the supervision of international labour standards are particularly important.

The ILO has always strived to promote decent employment and social justice in its member States, trying to help find win-win solutions for all actors in the labour market. This has been often challenging and, as the world of work is all the time changing, requires the ILO to also constantly adapt.

The Super Vector prize will be encouragement and motivation for the ILO to continue on this way.

Once more, thank you very much indeed!
