ILO examines how lack of social protection threatens COVID-19 recovery in developing countries

GENEVA (ILO News) – The International Labour Organization (ILO) will release a new briefing note looking at the role of social protection in alleviating the COVID-19 crisis in developing countries and the potentially devastating consequences where such systems are inadequate or lacking.

The brief proposes a number of emergency response and longer-term measures to support recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. These include health care, employment protection and basic income security.

Two separate, shorter briefs are also being published, examining the importance of sickness benefits in the context of COVID-19 recovery.

The briefs include data and examples from a number of countries.
