Roma star to celebrate International Women’s Day with the ILO

Yalitza Aparicio, the actor who stars in the Oscar-winning film Roma, will celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) with the International Labour Organization (ILO) at two events on 7-8 March.

On 7 March, the media are invited to a screening of Roma, followed by a panel discussion with Aparicio, Marcelina Bautista, Secretary-General of Mexico’s National Union of Workers and Domestic Workers, and Claire Hobden, ILO Technical Officer on Vulnerable Workers. The screening is organized jointly with Cine-ONU.

On 8 March, journalists can join Aparicio at a celebration of IWD at the ILO headquarters in Geneva. The event, A Quantum Leap for Gender Equality: For a Better Future of Work for All, will include a conversation with Aparicio, a high-level discussion with public and private sector leaders on gender and the world of work, and entertainment.

Roma won three Oscars, as well as the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, three Golden Globe awards and four BAFTAs. The movie follows a young domestic worker for a family in Mexico City’s middle-class Roma neighbourhood during the political upheavals of the 1970’s.

Registration: The film screening is at 7 p.m. at the Cinerama Empire, Rue de Carouge 72, Geneva. Entrance is free, on a first come, first served basis.

The ILO IWD celebration will take place from 11:00-13:00 in the ILO Governing Body room. Please confirm your participation at the ILO-based event by registering at the following link. Those without a UN badge must bring an official, valid, photo identity document.
