ANTALYA (ILO News) – ILO Director-General Guy Ryder is in the Turkish resort town of Antalya to participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit that opens here today. The ILO head will address the summit’s first working session on inclusive growth.

Ryder will focus on how rising inequality is a factor contributing to weak economic and employment growth and the increasing risk of not reaching the goal set by G20 Leaders one year ago in Brisbane to lift total G20 GDP by 2 per cent by 2018.

He will also highlight the policy responses that the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers proposed earlier this year to help spur inclusive economic growth and job creation.

Over the last twelve months, the ILO has participated in four streams of the G20: the sherpas track and the working groups on employment, development and on the “Framework for Strong, Sustainable and Balanced Growth”, agreed at the 2009 Pittsburgh Summit as a means for G20 members to coordinate policy.

The ILO has contributed with both single and joint papers to the work of the G20.
