BRASILIA (ILO News) – The Brazilian football star Robson de Souza, better known as Robinho, has lent his support to the International Labour Organization’s campaign to eliminate the worst forms of child labour in Brazil.

Robinho, who will be part of the Brazilian squad during the 2010 football World Cup starting this month in South Africa, has agreed to be the face of the national campaign that is being carried out by the ILO’s International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) in Brazil.

A photo of Robinho holding the Red Card Against Child Labour is being distributed across Brazil to call attention to June 12 as part of the messages for the World Day Against Child Labour.

Brazil has been a leader in the international fight against child labour. The government has set 2015 as the goal to eliminate the worst forms of child labour and 2020 for all forms, in accordance with the Hemispheric Agenda on Decent Work in the Americas, adopted at the ILO 16th American Regional Meeting in Brasilia in May 2006.
