Sub-regional Workshop on Inspection Campaigns on Health and Safety at Work and Undeclared Work
The purpose of the workshop, organized by the DWT/CO for Central and Eastern Europe, with support from LAB/ADMIN, was to present experiences of European Union member states to representatives of Balkan countries and Ukraine on how to prepare, develop and perform labour inspection campaigns, as well as to talk about ongoing practices in the sub region. The objective of the workshop was also to illustrate how inspection campaigns conducted in collaboration with social partners can improve the effectiveness and efficiency of labour inspectorates’ activities which in turn contribute towards better working conditions and sustainable enterprises.
The event was attended by 39 participants from Labour Inspectorates, Employers’ and Workers’ organizations of seven countries: Albania, Belgium, France, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Portugal and Ukraine. Overall, 21 different organizations were represented.
The workshop stressed some key ideas on how to set up information and inspection campaigns and highlighted experiences from the participating countries. It provided an occasion for tripartite constituents to comment on the lessons learned and discuss potential opportunities of work.
As main conclusions, all constituents expressed the will to engage in new communication and inspection campaigns, especially with the double feature of raising awareness and promoting a safe environment for business and decent work through law enforcement. All representatives agreed that a joint initiative at sub regional level could be an experience from which all would gain. Priorities should be focused on construction and agriculture and address simultaneously occupational risks and undeclared work.
