This ILO Gender Network Handbook was designed for network members as well as all ILO staff and representatives of constituents – governments, and employers’ and workers’ organizations – as a support to effectively mainstream gender in all their work.

This web-based version contains some of the key documents and materials in the handbook on promoting equality between women and men in the world of work. It can serve as background information when preparing presentations or briefings, as a guide when designing initiatives or activities, and when advising others. All of the pages can be photocopied for use as handouts during training workshops or as information flyers.

The ILO Gender Network is a dedicated team of colleagues – some 130 women and men in ILO offices worldwide and at headquarters-based units – who are working in partnership to make gender equality in the world of work a reality.

Together the network – as a global team – contributes to the goal of promoting opportunities for women and men to obtain decent and productive work in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. The team aims to advance gender equality as an integral element of the ILO vision of Decent Work for All Women and Men by identifying strategic opportunities to incorporate and highlight gender issues in the organization’s objectives, as well as in flagship products and activities.
