The 101st session of the International Labour Conference - General discussion on the youth employment crisis

The 101st session of the International Labour Conference of the ILO, is to be held in Geneva (Switzerland) from 30 May to 15 June 2012. The Governing Body of the ILO placed an item on “the youth employment crisis” on the agenda of the 101st International Labour Conference for general discussion.


Youth Employment Forum

As youth unemployment reaches unprecedented levels in many countries, the ILO held a Global Youth Employment Forum to address the challenges young people face in the labour market. A hundred young men and women (aged 18-29), from all regions of the world shared their experiences and views on the current employment situation and discussed practical examples of successful initiatives which have led to the promotion of decent work for youth.

Global Youth Consultations

The ILO held events in more than 40 countries around the world from March to May 2012 to hear young people’s views on the alarming youth employment situation.


Knowledge Management Facility on Youth, Employment and Migration: Global knowledge-sharing workshops

A Knowledge Sharing Workshop on Youth, Employment and Migration took place in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic: 29 – 31 October 2012. This was the third official workshop. The previous two took place in Budapest and Lima. The objectives of the global workshop are to share the knowledge gained from the implementation of YEM programmes, discuss good practices and lessons learnt as well as reflect on the contribution made by the JPs to the attainment of the MDG goals. The workshop also offered a platform to exchange views on how to make achievements sustainable and maintain the YEM global community of practice.
