The ILO’s Impact Insurance capacity building initiative

Despite growing knowledge on inclusive insurance, many insurers and distributors struggle to offer insurance products that are viable for them and valuable for consumers. Recognizing these gaps, the ILO’s Impact Insurance capacity building initiative works at the local, regional and global level to translate knowledge into practical solutions and to develop the skills of providers, distributors and others in offering impact insurance.

At the local and regional level, we partner with training institutes that benefit from our capacity building package to offer inclusive insurance content to their market. At the global level, we offer two flagship programmes - the face-to-face Impact Insurance Academy and the e-learning Insurance for Development – bringing together stakeholders from all over the world to discuss ways to further develop inclusive insurance. Our integrated capacity-building approach ensures that efforts are self-sustaining and create lasting change.

Training modules

Training activities are the main capacity building tool of the ILO's Impact Insurance Facility, designed to address local needs and knowledge and skills gaps. We have trained hundreds of practitioners from Africa, Asia and Latin America, contributing to improving the quality and quantity of impact insurance.

Capacity-building tools

In addition to training modules, we develop tools to support practitioners in their work in impact insurance. This includes handbooks, exercises and checklists that can be shared with colleagues and partners.

Our local training partners

We started our work with local training institutes in 2015 and we continue to explore new partnerships. If you are an established insurance training institute interested in working with us, please contact us at IMPACTINSURANCE@ilo.org.
