National Youth Funds in Africa

National Youth Funds: Mali, Tanzania & Tunisia

Summary

The project aims to improve the impact and effectiveness of National Youth Funds in three African countries, by studying such funds in selected African countries. Between 2008 and 2010, the project has generated studies of National Youth Funds in Mali, Tunisia and Tanzania, which aimed to create employment for young people by bringing together and funding financial institutions, social funds and other relevant stakeholders on youth employment. In 2011, the ILO developed guidelines, based on these studies as well as on an assessment of lessons from other countries and stakeholders. The guidelines address issues related to the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of such funds, and provide suggestions for improved impact and effectiveness.
