Where We Work: Project Briefs

Ghana

In Ghana, the AATIF supports a new rice farm development and its move into food processing by financing the construction of a state-of-the-art rice mill. Rice production is exclusively for the Ghanaian market and hence positively improves food security. In addition to the commercial farm, the project is beginning an out-grower scheme which will enable 7'000 smallholder farmers to process their rice in the mill and in doing so, increase their income through a raised selling price of their produce.

Zambia

In Zambia, the AATIF fund supports investment in modern irrigation systems to ensure production in the dry season. In order to comply with the social safeguard requirements of the fund, the project committed to pay at least minimum wage to employees, adjust registration forms in order to be able to identify minors, ensure schooling of farm children by expanding school buildings, providing transportation between the farm and school, improve the occupational health and safety management system and provide treated mosquito nets for farm workers and their families living on the farm.
