General Cargo

Vessel suffered an accident and sunk on 8th December 2021 in Abu Qir port, Egypt. 3 seafarers died, 1 from each of Egypt, India & Syria.
ITF was contacted on 8th December 2021 and the ITF met the crew and our Egyptian union lawyer.
Some of the crew have not been paid for 7, 8 and 9 months, and 1 seafarer has not been paid for 17 months
The P&I certificate found on board resulted to be fake!

14 seafarers (inculding 3 deceased seafarers) have been abandoned.
Trying to establish contact with the families of the deceased seafarers to try and recover their wages.
ITF legal assistance has been offered for possible claims for compensation.

The vessel is no longer in commission as the report provided said it sunk on 8 December 2021.

Please find herewith further correspondence that was received from Mr. Subhash Barguzer, Deputy Director General of Shipping India, concerning the ‘Sea Queen’, IMO Number 7915591, flag: Togo, registered owner/operator: Belize, which suffered an accident and sunk in Abi Qir, Egypt, on 8 December 2021 having on board 14 seafarers from Egypt (6), India (6), Syria (2) who thereafter were abandoned while 3 seafarers died (one from each Egypt, India and Syria). Some of the crew have not been paid for 7, 8 and 9 months, and 1 seafarer has not been paid for 17 months, and the P&I certificate on board resulted to be fake!

In particular, ITF, but also the authorities of Egypt, are requested to provide for the crew list and name of the RPS provider at the earliest, as well as their contact number, copies of passport, visa and local contact details of the seaport authorities to enable the authorities of India to take up the matter with local authorities.

All the crew wages have been paid, assisted by the lawyer offered by the ITF on legal assistance basis. We cannot confirm if the family of the Indian seafarer who passed away was paid his wages. The seafarers, as well as the families of the deceased Indian seafarer are claiming compensation for the accident that led to the death of 3 seafarers.
