Circumstances: | Crew abandoned by shipower. The vessel spent 4 weeks at anchorage and is now in a small port. At the earlier stage, Caritas provided food and assistance, later, following a strike by the crew the cargo interests agreed to intervene. They have partially paid outstanding wages (abt. $100,000) and have supplied some food and diesel oil. The vessel is to be sold but the situation is unclear and the crew desperately want to be repatriated. Chief Engineer has gone home at his own expense. Meanwhile the harbour master is unwilling to put the vessel in lay up. |
