8th European Regional Meeting of the International Labour Organization (ILO). ILO Director-General Juan Somavia meets with employees of "Pastéis de Belém", one of the oldest pastry shops in Lisbon. The Pastéis de Belém has implemented pay equity solutions for its male and female workers, using an innovative job evaluation method developed by local employers associations, trade unions and the ILO. It provides a detailed profile of workers skills combined with the demands of the job, including physical hazards and stress. During 2005-2008, the ILO provided technical assistance to a European Commission funded project, "Revalorize Work to Promote Gender Equality", involving Portuguese trade unions, employer associations and the government, Pastéis de Belém being one of the beneficiaries of the project.
