Effect given to the recommendations of the committee and the Governing Body
  1. 29. The Committee examined the present case at its June 2017 meeting [see 382nd Report, paras 190–209], when the Committee requested the complainant organization – the National Union of Contract Public Teachers of Cameroon (SYNAEEPCAM) – to indicate the reasons why it did not challenge the results of the 2016 trade union elections before the courts and also to provide additional information on any actions taken by the departmental representative of the Ministry of Primary Education with respect to a local union representative, Mr Innocent Ngwa Folum. The Committee also requested the Government to inform it of the outcome of the proceedings before the national courts regarding allegations of preferential treatment with regard to the procedure for registration of a trade union confederation in Cameroon.
  2. 30. In its communication dated 5 March 2020, the Government indicates that the allegations of preferential treatment with regard to the registration procedure are still under investigation before the national courts and that it remains open to dialogue with SYNAEEPCAM.
  3. 31. While regretting the brevity of the information provided by the Government, the Committee notes the Government’s indication that it is open to dialogue with SYNAEEPCAM and that the complainant organization has not sent the information requested in June 2017 concerning the reasons why it did not challenge the results of the trade union elections before the courts and the situation of its local union representative. In view of these circumstances, the Committee considers this case closed and will not pursue its examination.
