The Committee notes that the Government’s report has not been received. The Committee also notes the observations of the General Workers’ Confederation of Madagascar (CGSTM) dated 26 August 2011, which were communicated to the Government on 15 September 2011. The CGSTM alleges that agricultural wage-earners are mainly working in the informal sector and that they do not benefit from appropriate protection. No concrete and/or consistent actions have been taken despite the recommendations made by the CGSTM that the State should examine more closely the situation of rural workers. Occupational accidents in this sector are not being considered and are not compensated, and no health services have been put in place until now. The Committee hopes that the Government will not fail to submit its report in 2012 together with a detailed reply to the observations made by the General Workers’ Confederation of Madagascar (CGSTM).
