The Committee previously noted the Government’s indication that inland navigation is only for passenger traffic and that it does not involve any loading or unloading of cargo. It requested the Government to report on any updates regarding the development of its infrastructure related to transportation on national rivers and recalled the possibility, where necessary, of seeking technical assistance from the Office for the development of legislation giving effect to the provisions of this Convention. In its previous report, the Government indicates that no changes have been introduced to the legislation. The Committee requests the Government to provide, where relevant, information on any updates regarding the development of its infrastructure related to transportation of cargo on national rivers and on any measures subsequently adopted to ensure the protection against accidents of workers employed in loading or unloading, in accordance with the provisions of the Convention.

The Committee notes the information provided that in The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (a landlocked country) inland navigation is performed on natural and man-made lakes, that the navigation on the Ohrid, Prespa and Dojran lakes is only for passenger traffic and that it does not involve any loading or unloading of cargo and that there is currently no navigation on rivers due to lack of boats. The Committee hopes the Government will keep the Office informed of any developments regarding the development of its infrastructure related to transportation on national rivers and to seek technical assistance from the Office for the development of legislation giving effect to the provisions of this Convention ratified by The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
