Regulates, inter alia, the relationship between citizens and legal persons recognized in terms of current legislation as producers of agricultural goods. Defines the State policy in the field of regulation of agricultural markets and its development. Article 16 of the Law provides for participation of Industry Unions and Associations in the formulation of the State agricultural policy.

Regulates legal relationships arising from holding by citizens of personal household farms, defines the concept of personal household farms. Article 9 provides for citizens' right for voluntary pension insurance adherence in cases of exploitation of personal household farms.

Regulates, inter alia, the legal relationships arising from the creation and running of small scale farming enterprises. The Law guarantees citizens' rights in such activity and defines rights and duties of members of peasant farming enterprises.

Repeals, among other texts, the previous Law on Peasant-farm enterprises [Vedomosti Siezda Narodnyx Deputatov 1990, N 26, pp 324].
