Sexual Offences Act, 2001 (No. 8). - Adoption: 2001 | ZWE-2001-L-64993 Amends criminal law regarding sexual offences. Divided into 6 parts. Part 1 contains preliminary provisions. Part 2 deals with extra-marital sexual intercourse with young persons and severely intellectually handicapped persons, Part 3 with non-consensual sexual acts, and Part 4 with suppression of prostitution. Part 5 makes provision for prevention of spread of HIV. Provides for offence of deliberate transmission of HIV, testing of sexual offenders for HIV infection, and presumption regarding HIV infection. Part 6 contains general provisions.

Repeals the Chiefs and Headmen's Act and amends certain provisions of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, the Communal Land Act and the Rural District Councils Act.

Prisons Act [Chapter 7:11]. - Adoption: 1956-04-23 | ZWE-1956-L-61345 Comprehensive legislation on establishment and management of prisons. Divided into 23 parts. These deal with: establishment of prisons; prison service and appointment of prison officers; prison service commission; powers and duties of prison officers; appointment and duties of medical officers; official visitors, visiting justices, ministers of religion and prisoners aid societies; desertion and mutiny; admission and confinement of prisoners; segregation and classification of prisoners; custody and removal of prisoners; labour of prisoners; maintenance; prohibited articles and areas; discipline of prisoners; escapes; corporal punishment; prisoners under sentence of death; remission of sentence; release of prisoners on licence or order; report on long-term prisoners; and discharge of prisoners. Section 76 regulates employment of convicted prisoners. Establishes that every prisoner under sentence of imprisonment may be kept for labour within or outside the precints of any prison in any part of Zimbabwe, and in any employment approved by Minister. Prisoner shall not be required to perform labour if judicial officer passing sentence has specified that sentence of imprisonment shall be without labour. Female prisoners shall not be employed outside a prison except on the recommendation of a medical officer, and then only on such labour as may be prescribed.

These deal with: prosecution at public instance, private prosecutions, prescription of offences, arrests, search warrants and seizures, preparatory examinations, confirmation of extra-curial statements, bail, indictments and charges, procedure before commencement of trial, procedure after commencement of trial, procedures in respect of cases adjourned under section 54 of Magistrates Court Act, witnesses and evidence in criminal proceedings, discharge of accused persons, previous convictions and finger-prints, judgment on criminal trial, punishments, compensation and restitution, and pardon and commutation.
