An Act to prevent the commission of offences of atrocities against the members of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, to provide for Special Courts for the trial of such offences and for the relief and rehabilitation of the victims of such offences and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

In particular, this Act provides that no person is to compel or entice a member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe to do `beggar' or other similar forms of forced or bonded labour other than any compulsory service for public purposes imposed by Government.

The Tribes or tribal communities, or parts of, or groups within, tribes or tribal communities, specified in 2 [Parts I to 3[XXII] of the Schedule to this Order shall, in relation to the States to which those Parts respectively relate, be deemed to be Scheduled Tribes so far as regards members thereof residents in the localities specified in relation to them respectively in those Parts of that Schedule.
