    The Minister shall designate by Notice in the Official gazette, prohibited fishing methods and species of fish which may not be harvested during the closed season and in closed areas (reg. 3). Regulation 4 prohibits the use of entangling nets, whereas regulation 5 prohibits the uses of seine nets of a specified mesh size. Regulations 6 and prohibits selling or having in possession of lobsters carrying eggs respectively turtles and turtle eggs. Regulations 8, 9, 10 and 11 concern the protection of sea eggs. No person shall land any yellowfin tuna or bigeye tuna of less than 3.2 kilograms live weight (reg. 13). Regulation 14 provide for the protection of coral. (16 regulations)

    This Act makes provision for the control of marine pollution. Release of any pollutant into the environment which violates any of the provisions of this Act is declared an offence under section 3. The Head of the Environmental Engineering Division (called "the Director" in this Act) shall have extensive powers to control marine pollution and in this task shall be assisted by marine pollution control inspectors designated by the Minister under section 5. The Director shall investigate the marine environment and shall cause a register of pollutants to be maintained (sect. 4). Sections 9 to 12 deal with powers of enforcement of the Director, inspectors and magistrates. In exercise of their functions the Minister and the Director shall have regard to the coastal zone management plan adopted under the Coastal Zone Management Act. The Director shall investigate the environment in general, and in particular ascertain the extent of pollution for land-based sources, sea-bed activities, dumping, and airborne sources. This public officer shall cause a Register of Pollutants to be maintained and prepare and implement a programme for the reduction of pollutants pursuant to section 4. he shall be assisted by marine pollution inspectors appointed by the Minister under section 5. Regulation defines Regulation making powers the Minister (sect. 13). Penalties are prescribed in section 16.

    This Act establishes the Urban Development Commission as a body corporate, defines its functions and powers and provides with respect to its organization. The Act also establishes the Urban Enterprise Fund and provides for the appointment of the Director of Urban Development. This Act applies only to land in urban areas that is designated by the Minister under this Act or is vested in the Commission. The Commission shall be instrumental in the development of urban areas and for this purpose may (compulsory) acquire and dispose of land. The Commission shall prepare and submit to the Minister an urban renewal plan.

    An Act to provide for the management and development of fisheries in Barbados and to provide for the appointment of a Chief Fisheries Officer and a Fisheries Advisory Committee.
    The 47 sections are divided into a Citation and 4 Parts: Fisheries Management and Development (I); Safety of Commercial Fishing Vessels and Accidents at Sea (II); Enforcement (III); General (IV).
    The Chief Fisheries Officer shall develop and keep under review fisheries schemes (sect. 4). Section 7 makes provision for fisheries access agreements and section 8 provides for fishing licences for foreign vessels. Other sections of Part I provide, among other things, for; local fishing vessel licences (11), commercial fishermen's licences (12), conditions of fishing licences (14), fees, royalties and other charges (15), registration of local fishing vessels (18), appeals (23), construction and alteration of fishing vessels (24), fisheries related research (26-28), prohibited fishing methods (29). Section 31 (Part II) prescribes certificates of inspection for local fishing vessels. The Minister may regulate matters specified in section 46. The Act is completed by 2 Schedules: Fisheries Advisory Committee (1) and repeals (2).

    This Act amends the First Schedule of the Severance Payments Act by deleting from paragraph 2 the words "4 weeks' basic pay for each complete year of employment" and substituting different amounts per year depending on whether the person's years of service to the employer is 10 years or less, between 10 and 20 years, or more than 20 years but not more than 33 years; and by deleting paragraph 6(1)(a) and substituting a definition of "basic pay".

    These Regulations under s.50 of the National Insurance and Social Security Act amend the Schedule to the National Insurance and Social Security (Collection of Contributions) Regulations, 1967 by deleting par. 1(a), (b), (d) and (e) and substituting new contribution rates for insured or employed persons and employers.

    This Order under s.3 of the Severance Payments Act (Cap. 355A) and under par.6(2) of the First Schedule to the Act provides that the amount of a week's basic pay shall not be taken to exceed the sum of 715 dollars or the sum prescribed in the Severance Fund Contribution Regulations, 1977, as the maximum insurable earnings of a person paid weekly. The Order also revokes the Calculation of Severance Payments (Maximum Basic Pay) Order, 1984, subject to sub-paragraph (2). The Calculation of Severance Payments (Maximum Basic Pay) Order, 1984 continues to apply in respect of any employee dismissed before the commencement of the Order.

    These Regulations under ss.50 and 25 of the National Insurance and Social Security Act amend Reg.50(1) of the National Insurance and Social Security (Benefit) Regulations, 1967 by deleting paragraphs (a) and (b) and substituting new provisions concerning the percentage of average insurable weekly earnings to be received as benefits by unemployed insured persons and those who have been temporarily laid off or kept on short-time.

    Provides for the registration, supervision and management of certain societies whose members share a common bond of philosophy and social and economic objectives. Conditions for registration include a membership of at least ten persons, other than corporate bodies, who have attained the age of sixteen years, and detailed provisions for the names of societies. Under the Act, a registered society is a body corporate governed by its own by-laws. Other provisions cover share capital, issue of shares, allocation of surplus, dividends, prohibited loans and guarantees in the event of insolvency, the office of directors, meetings, voting, membership and suspension or termination thereof, financial matters and audit, dissolution and liquidation, settlement of disputes, the establishment of a Co-operative Societies Appeals Tribunal, civil remedies, the functions of the Registrar, consumers' societies, and other matters. The former Co-operative Societies Act is repealed (Cap. 378).
