    Provides for matters arising out of Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas establishing Caribbean Community including CARICOM Single Market and Economy. Divided into 2 parts. Part 1 contains preliminary provisions. Part 2 provides for "CARICOM Single Market and Economy" and "Community origin", goods of community origin, exemption from duty where drawback is allowable, common external tariff, verification of origin of exported goods, and penalties for false documents of origin of goods exported.

Part 3 regulates appointment and role of agents. Part 4 provides for supervision and enforcement, and Part 5 for powers of the securities commission. Part 6 contains miscellaneous provisions. Repeals Mutual Funds Act 1998.

    Provides for guarantees for consumers regarding supply of goods and services as well as rights of redress against suppliers and manufacturers in respect of failure to comply with such guarantees. Divided into 8 parts. Part 1 contains preliminary provisions. Part 2 provides for guarantees in respect of goods, Part 3 for redress against suppliers in respect of goods, Part 4 for redress against manufacturers in respect of goods, Part 5 for guarantees in respect of services, and Part 6 for redress against supplier in respect of services. Part 7 deals with resolution of disputes, and Part 8 contains miscellaneous provisions.

Part 6 makes provision for consumer safety, Part 7 for recall of goods, Part 8 for industry codes, and Part 9 for administration and enforcement. Finally, Part 10 contains miscellaneous provisions.

    Seeks to promote, maintain and encourage competition. Prohibits prevention, restriction or distortion of competition and abuse of dominant positions in trade in Barbados and within Caricom Single Market and Economy. Also aims at ensuring that all enterprises, irrespective of size, have opportunity to participate equitably in market. Divided into 10 parts. Part 1 contains preliminary provisions. Part 2 establishes Fair Trading Commission. Part 3 provides for anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominant position, merger and interlocking directorships. Part 4 deals with resale price maintenance. Part 5 regulates authorisations. Part 6 provides for anti-competitive business conduct. Part 7 deals with enforcement and appeals, Part 8 with offences, Part 9 with Community Competition Commission, and Part 10 contains miscellaneous provisions.

    Small Business Development Act (No. 23 of 1999) (Cap. 318C). - Act on-line

    Provides for tax incentives and technical assistance to qualified small businesses, which are defined as, inter alia, enterprises which operate with less than 25 employees, generate less than 2 million USD in sales, and whose shareholders are more than 75 per cent local.

    Urban Development Commission Act (Cap. 241). - Act on-line

    This Act establishes the Urban Development Commission as a body corporate, defines its functions and powers and provides with respect to its organization. The Act also establishes the Urban Enterprise Fund and provides for the appointment of the Director of Urban Development. This Act applies only to land in urban areas that is designated by the Minister under this Act or is vested in the Commission. The Commission shall be instrumental in the development of urban areas and for this purpose may (compulsory) acquire and dispose of land. The Commission shall prepare and submit to the Minister an urban renewal plan.

    This Act revises the law governing international business companies carrying on the business of international manufacturing or international trade and commerce from within Barbados with a view to encouraging the development of Barbados as a responsible international financial centre, and to providing incentives by way of tax reduction, exemptions and benefits for international manufacturing and international trade and commerce from within Barbados.

    The Sugar Industry (Entrustment of Funds) Order, 1983 (S.I. 1983 No. 24)

    Entrusts the Small holder Mechanisation Fund, the Carry over Sugar Financing Fund, the Sugar Industry Scholarship Fund and the Sugar Industry Capital Investment Fund to the Barbados National Bank. This is for the purposes of section 18 of the Sugar Industry Act, for the financial year 1981/82.

    Better Security Act (Ch. 160)

    Aims at better securing uninterrupted water supply and light for use by the community and at avoiding dangers to human life and to property. Provides that a breach of contract by persons employed to supply water or light (gas and electricity) is a punishable offence. Establishes that a breach of contract involving injury to persons or property is a punishable offence. Sets the penalties for these offences
