Part 2 establishes Fair Trading Commission. Part 3 provides for anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominant position, merger and interlocking directorships. Constitution (Amendment) Act, 2002 (No. 14). Adoption: 2002-09-05 | BRB-2002-L-62428 Amends Sections 15, 23 and 78 of Constitution. Establishes that imposition of mandatory sentence of death or execution thereof shall not be inconsistent with Section 15 of Constitution. Also provides for transfer between Barbados and other countries of persons detained in prisons, hospitals or other institutions by virtue of orders made in the course of the exercise by courts or tribunals of their jurisdiction.

Tourism Development Act (Cap. 341). - Adoption: 2002-08-31 | BRB-2002-L-87101 This Act concerns the approval of tourism projects and products and the provision of incentives for sustainable tourism development and related matters. "Tourism project" includes the restoration, preservation and conservation of natural sites and the establishment, restoration, preservation and conservation of monuments, museums and other historical structures and sites. The Minister may require an environmental impact assessment to be carried out for the project to be approved. In order to be financed, projects shall meet environmental standards defined by the Minister of Environment.

Penal System Reform Act, 1998 (No. 50). Adoption: 1998-12-23 | BRB-1998-L-51635 Provides for suspended sentencing, curfew orders, mediation, and community service sentences for criminal offenders. Mediation shall permit young offenders to make amends to a complainant by performing unpaid work, paying compensation, or participating in a rehabilitation programme. Amends the Juvenile Offenders Act to raise the age of criminal responsibility from seven to eleven.

Urban Development Commission Act (Cap. 241). - Adoption: 1997-08-11 | BRB-1997-L-87100 This Act establishes the Urban Development Commission as a body corporate, defines its functions and powers and provides with respect to its organization. The Act also establishes the Urban Enterprise Fund and provides for the appointment of the Director of Urban Development. This Act applies only to land in urban areas that is designated by the Minister under this Act or is vested in the Commission. The Commission shall be instrumental in the development of urban areas and for this purpose may (compulsory) acquire and dispose of land. The Commission shall prepare and submit to the Minister an urban renewal plan.

The functions of the Commission include: to conserve the natural beauty of Barbados; to control, maintain, and develop public parks, and; to advise the Minister on various matters. The second part of the Act concerns the licensing of some activities in public parks. The Minister may make Regulations relative to preservation of parks in accordance with section 30. The remaining provisions prescribe offences and penalties and define powers of public officials.

Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1977-6 (Cap. 346). - Adoption: 1977-03-24 | Date of entry into force: 1977-03-24 | BRB-1977-L-51899 Repeals the Employment of Women, Young Persons and Children Act. Makes new provisions relating to the employment of persons generally, young persons and children. Part One gives relevant definitions. Part Two sets provisions involving the employment of persons at night. Part Three deals with young persons, banning the employment of young persons at night, or in work hazardous to their health, safety or morals. Part Four restricts the employment of children to only employment which is a part of training or schooling. Part Five provides for miscellaneous matters, such as the employment of persons of compulsory school age. Gives members of the authorities (the police force, port managers and the Chief Labour Officer) the duty to proceed against a suspected offender and gives such members the power to enter premises where the suspected violation is occurring. Prohibits parents or legal guardians from taking or conducing their children into employment. Authorizes the Minister for Labour to make regulations for the purposes of the Act.
