L'examen donne lieu à un certificat d'aptitude physique des gens de mer. Les articles 8 à 16 énumèrent les maladies incompatibles avec la navigation. Les conditions d'acuité visuelle, de sens chromatique et d'acuité auditive sont fixées à l'annexe 1. Le modèle du certificat d'aptitude physique des gens de mer est fixé à l'annexe 2.

Chapter 1 pertains to the registration and certification of various classes of officers and crew members; it includes examination subjects for each employment category as well as various fees related to certification. Chapter 8 contains the manning requirements of various classes of merchant ships. It also provides a standard agreement between seamen and ship master establishing the duties and responsibilities that each has to the other.
