Second Region

The Act, which was to enter into force in 2005, did not come into force and was replaced by the Labour Act 2007. In the iterim, the Labour Act 1992 remained in force.

The 2004 Act consolidated and amended the labour law and provides comprehensive Labour Law for all employers and workers.
Chapter 1 - Introductory Provisions; inter alia deals with application of the act.
Chapter 2 - Fundamental Rights and Protections; deals with prohibition and restriction of child labour, prohibition of forced labour, prohibition of discrimination and sexual harassment in employment and Freedom of association.
Chapter 3 - Basic Conditions of Employment; provides for remuneration, hours of work, leave, accommodation and termination of employment.
Chapter 4 - Health Safety and Welfare of Workers; provisions include rights and duties of employers and workers and health and safety representatives.
Chapter 5 - Unfair Labour Practices
Chapter 6 - Trade Unions and Employers Organizations; deals with registration of trade unions and employers organizations, recognition and organisational rights of registered trade unions and collective agreements.
Chapter 7 - Strikes and Lockouts.
Chapter 8 - Prevention and Resolution of disputes includes provisions on disputes affecting the national interest, conciliation and arbitration.
Chapter 9 - Labour Institutions deals with Labour Advisory Council, Committee For Dispute Prevention and Resolution and Essential Services Committee, Wages Commission, Labour Court, Labour Commissioner, Labour Inspectorate.
