Abstract/Citation: | Regulates safety with respect to merchant shipping. Part One makes introductory provisions. Part Two governs required safety certificates for passenger ships and cargo ships. Part Three regulates surveys and inspections. Establishes requirements for ships to be surveyed with regard to equipment, hulls, load lines, machinery and radios. Part Four provides for Papua New Guinea safety certificates. Part Five provides for the implementation of safety and load line conventions. Part Six sets forth safety regulations which govern, inter alia, hulls, anchors and cables, ship side fittings, rudder and stearing gear, main and auxiliary machinery, pressure vessels, boiler feed systems, spare gear and tools, load lines, compasses, life-saving equipment, and signalling equipment. Sets safety requirements with regard to fires and fire services. Establishes requirements for radios. Governs the packing and stowage of dangerous goods. Makes requirements for safety on board and safe working practices. |
