  ACUTE HAZARDS PREVENTION FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE & EXPLOSION   Highly explosive.  NO open flames, NO sparks and NO smoking.  Do NOT expose to heat, friction or shock. PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST. Prevent build-up of electrostatic charges (e.g., by grounding) if in liquid state.  In case of fire in the surroundings: water in large amounts, water spray.  In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.

 Use appropriate engineering controls.
  SYMPTOMS PREVENTION FIRST AID
Inhalation     Fresh air, rest.
Skin   Protective gloves.  Rinse contaminated clothes (fire hazard) with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothes.
Eyes Redness.  Wear safety spectacles in combination with breathing protection if powder.  First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then refer for medical attention.
Ingestion     Rinse mouth.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL CLASSIFICATION & LABELLING
Personal protection: particulate filter respirator adapted to the airborne concentration of the substance. Keep wet. Do not allow to dry out. Consult an expert! Evacuate danger area!

According to UN GHS Criteria

PHYSICAL & CHEMICAL INFORMATION

Physical State; Appearance
WHITE SOLID IN VARIOUS FORMS.

Physical dangers
The substance is very sensitive to heat, shock, friction, naked flames, sparks or electrostatic discharges. As a result of flow, agitation, etc., electrostatic charges can be generated. Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed with air.

Chemical dangers
May explode on friction or on heating or on shock.

Formula: C12H16(ONO2)6O6

Solubility in water: none
See Notes.

EXPOSURE & HEALTH EFFECTS

Routes of exposure
See Notes.

Effects of short-term exposure
See Notes.

Inhalation risk
No indication can be given about the rate at which a harmful concentration of this substance in the air is reached.

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
See Notes.

NOTES
For Nitrocellulose, dry, less than 12.6% nitrogen, see ICSC 1560.
Insufficient data are available on the effect of this substance on human health, therefore utmost care must be taken.
The commercial products are damped (with water or solvents) or mixed with plasticizers to reduce the fire and explosion hazards of dry nitrocellulose. These agents may change the physical and toxicological properties.
Technical product is sold with 40-60% of diluent (for example, dimethyl phthalate, cyclohexanol peroxide, diallyl phthalate) to reduce potential explosion hazard.
If the substance is formulated with solvent(s) also consult the card(s) (ICSC) of the solvent(s).
