  ACUTE HAZARDS PREVENTION FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE & EXPLOSION Highly flammable.  Risk of fire and explosion on heating above 60°C. Vapour/air mixtures are explosive. Liquid and vapour flash in direct sunlight.  NO open flames, NO sparks and NO smoking. NO contact with oxidizing agents.  Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging, or handling.  Use water spray, powder, foam, carbon dioxide.  In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position. 

 AVOID ALL CONTACT! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR! 
  SYMPTOMS PREVENTION FIRST AID
Inhalation Headache. Dizziness. Chest pain. Abdominal pain. Nausea. Vomiting. Shortness of breath. Muscle pain. Weakness. Convulsions. Symptoms may be delayed. See Notes.  Use closed system or ventilation.  Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer immediately for medical attention. 
Skin   Protective gloves. Protective clothing.  First rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention . 
Eyes   Wear face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.  First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then refer for medical attention. 
Ingestion   Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.  Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention . 

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL CLASSIFICATION & LABELLING
Remove all ignition sources. Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Personal protection: self-contained breathing apparatus. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent. Then store and dispose of according to local regulations.

VOLATILE COLOURLESS LIQUID WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR. 

Physical dangers
The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible. 

Chemical dangers
May explode on heating above 60°C. The substance may ignite spontaneously on contact with air. Decomposes on contact with acids. This produces highly toxic carbon monoxide (see ICSC 0023). Reacts violently with oxidants. This generates fire and explosion hazard. Oxidizes in air forming deposits which become peroxidized causing fire hazard.

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and through the skin. 

Effects of short-term exposure
The vapour is irritating to the respiratory tract. Inhalation of the vapour may cause lung oedema. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated. See Notes. The substance may cause effects on the lungs and central nervous system. This may result in muscle weakness, delirium and convulsions. The effects may be delayed. Exposure could cause death. 

Inhalation risk
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C. 

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
The substance may have effects on the nervous system. This may result in impaired functions. This substance is carcinogenic to humans if inhaled. May cause toxicity to human reproduction or development. 


OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS
TLV: (as Ni, ceiling value): 0.05 ppm as STEL; A3 (confirmed animal carcinogen with unknown relevance to humans) 

ENVIRONMENT
The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms. The substance may cause long-term effects in the aquatic environment. It is strongly advised not to let the chemical enter into the environment. 

NOTES
Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is suggested.
The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort.
Rest and medical observation are therefore essential.
Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered.
