64 Technical Schools and Colleges get approval to start delivering contract training to industry
The Ministry of Education recently approved a proposal from the Directorate of Technical Education to grant 64 Technical Schools and Colleges (TSCs) more independence in financial management.
In the new arrangements, TSCs will be able to provide contract training in response to local industry demand and keep part of the profits for their own use; for example, to buy materials and supplies for regular programmes.
Contract training opens the doors for companies to visit TSCs to discuss their training needs, and jointly develop training courses to meet those needs. It also encourages TSCs to approach industry to sell their training programmes.
TSC instructors approaching industry and industry representatives approaching TSCs is new in Bangladesh. Opportunities are flexible; TSCs can organize training in their own premises, at the company premises or at third party locations. With this new decentralized financial scheme, TSCs can even hire short-term trainers for the duration of the new customized training programmes.
Financial decentralization is part of reforming Bangladesh’s skills development system which is currently being undertaken by the Government of Bangladesh through the National Skills Development Policy and assisted by funding from the European Union, Canada and other donors including the Swiss Development Corporation.
