    Launch of national strategy for gender equality in skills

    In December 2014, the Bangladesh Skills for Employment and Productivity (B-SEP) Project supported the National Skills Development Council (NSDC) to launch the National Strategy for Promoting Gender Equality in TVET. The launch took the format of a workshop that focused on seeking practical recommendations to reinforce gender equality in skills institutions and industries.

    Partnerships for sustainable disability inclusion in private sector jobs

    16 million people in Bangladesh live with a disability, according to estimates by the Centre for Disability in Development. Promoting access for persons with disabilities to skills and jobs is a key priority of the ILO and the government as well as an important area of reform in Bangladesh’s skills development system.

    National workshop presents study findings on skills in four growth sectors

    The ILO, in close consultation with government, industry, workers organizations and civil society organizations, held a workshop in the capital on December 8 and 9, 2014 to present the findings of a study focusing on the priority occupations for the future growth of the furniture, ceramics, agro food processing and pharmaceutical sectors. The workshop also sought feedback from key stakeholders to validate the findings.

    National apprenticeship strategy takes shape

    Supported by the ILO, the National Skills Development Council held the first formal stakeholder meeting on developing a national strategy for apprenticeships in Bangladesh on September 30, 2014 in SK Fazilutennesa Mujib Mohila Technical Training College in the capital.

    Bangladesh businesses to benefit from introduction of new global productivity improvement tools

    Preparations are underway to introduce the globally accepted high-powered ILO productivity improvement tool SCORE to five industry sectors in 2015. SCORE, which stands for Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises assists small and medium enterprises to becoming more sustainable through being greener, more productive and providing decent jobs.

    Nationally recognised NTVQF teachers training programme launched in Bogra

    The Bangladesh Skills for Employment and Productivity Project launched a Competency-Based Training and Assessment NTVQF Level IV programme for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainers at the Vocational Teachers Training Institute (VTTI) in Bogra on July 4, 2015.

    New NTVQF tourism and hospitality trainers and assessors

    The Bangladesh Skills for Employment and Productivity Project, In collaboration with the Bangladesh Technical Education Board and the National Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (NHTTI), assessed the competence of 30 TVET trainers and assessors in three tourism and hospitality occupations (tour guiding, food and beverage service and housekeeping) on July 2, 3 and 4, 2015 in the capital.

    Graduates of the Graphic Arts Institute Dhaka, now working in leading media and printing organisations, offered their support to the institute to implement public partnerships in a one-day workshop supported by the ILO on 30 Jan 2015.
