On 12 and 13 April 2023, a total of 10 focal persons from BGMEA and BKMEA participated in ToT jointly organized by the ILO and its knowledge partner CMED. The main objective of this ToT was to guide the BGMEA and BKMEA representatives on how to use the handbook and checklist, applicable to Model Enterprise clinics.

Mr Saad Gilani, CTA of EIS Pilot, ILO, inaugurated the training session. The first day of training focused on theory and concept clarification among the participants. There were four presentations on the basic concept of enterprise clinics, handbook, and checklist. There was an opportunity for the participants to reflect on their learning and share opinions at the end of each session. The second day was for hands-on training and determining the next course of action from the employers. A work plan was presented during the final session to roll out the pilot process.

The training was well received by the participants. They were overall satisfied with the quality of training materials, and the facilitation. The participants expressed that their level of understanding on implementing the tools and guidelines of enterprise clinics increased after the training. The focal persons from BGMEA and BKMEA also agreed to provide their input in the handbook and checklist, to make a concise model for the ready-made garment industry.

Since 2013, the ILO has been working together with the Government of Bangladesh and industry partners on improving working conditions in Bangladesh’s Readymade Garments (RMG) sector. One of the prioritized works is to strengthen Enterprise Clinics in line with the relevant national legislation and research studies. In view of this, the handbook and checklist have been developed through a participatory process with all relevant stakeholders. On 21 March 2023, a pre-validation seminar on the handbook took place with the relevant stakeholders and their feedback is currently incorporating into the handbook and checklist with regular consultation.
