Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ILO to sign US$2.5 million agreement to support improved working conditions in Bangladesh

The Norwegian Minister for International Development Mr Heikki Eidsvoll Holmås and the ILO Country Office for Bangladesh Director Mr Srinivas Reddy will sign an agreement on 3 June. The Norwegian Government will provide NOK14.5 million (US$2.5 million) to support workers' rights and labour relations in export industries in Bangladesh.

The Norwegian Minister for International Development Mr Heikki Eidsvoll Holmås and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Country Office for Bangladesh Director Mr Srinivas Reddy will sign an agreement which will see the Norwegian Government providing NOK 14.5 million (approx. 2.5 million USD) for promoting workers rights and labour relations in export oriented industries in Bangladesh.

The agreement is expected to be signed in the presence of the Norwegian Ambassador Ms Ragne Birte Lund, as well the Secretary of Labour Mr Mikail Shipar and representatives from the Bangladesh Employers Federation (BEF) and the National Coordination Committee for Workers’ Education (NCCWE).

The signing ceremony will begin at 16.30 hrs on Monday 3 June 2013, at the Bakul Room, Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, Dhaka (Tel: +8802 8330001).
