ILO Dhaka - The International Labour Organization (ILO) is to mark its 90th anniversary with a series of events and activities held around the world by governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations representing its 182 member States. The overall theme for the national events organized under the 90th Anniversary will be “Social Dialogue on Decent Work for a Fair Globalization”.

In Bangladesh, the main events will be held on 03 May 2009 which will include a rally in the morning and high level forum in the afternoon at the Bangladesh China Friendship Centre. ILO’s social partners namely Government, employers and workers will take the lead in organizing the events. Hon’ble Minister, Ministries of Labour and Employment and Expatriates Welfare, Hon’ble State Minister for Labour and Employment, senior government officials, employers and trade unions, ILO partners will join in the events.

The topic of the high level forum is “Social Dialogue and Decent Work: Our Challenges” to be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Labour and Employment. This year the ILO completes its 36 years in Bangladesh. It hopes to learn from the past experience and to move forward with its decent work agenda.

The ILO’s 90th anniversary comes at a time of a global financial, economic and jobs crisis, in which the fundamental value of social justice - based on the four pillars of ILO's Decent Work Agenda: employment promotion, social protection, dialogue and rights at work - is central to a sustainable recovery.

The pursuit of social justice has been the defining principle of the ILO since its founding in 1919: from the eight-hour working day to the quest for a fair globalization, through war and peace, depression and economic boom, awards and battles, decolonization and globalization, the ILO has worked with and for the people in pursuit of that goal.

Join us on this 90th anniversary to commemorate our past and to charter the way for a future with decent work for all.
