Depuis son adoption en juin 1998, de nombreux dirigeants, organisations internationales et régionales, législateurs, mandants de l'OIT et la presse ont fait référence à la Déclaration. Les valeurs véhiculées représentent le consensus général en ce qui concerne les questions sociales et de travail, et en sont la référence primordiale.

Les Examens annuels, les Rapports globaux et les Programmes de coopération technique continueront d'alimenter les flux d'information et de prendre note des efforts déployés pour assurer le respect universel des principes et droits fondamentaux au travail.
