European Development Days 2017

Lab debate: Making the SDGs work for indigenous peoples

The ILO and the Danish Institute for Human Rights will host a Lab debate on Inequalities and indigenous peoples during the European Development Days.

The ILO and the Danish Institute for Human Rights warmly invite you to a Lab debate on Inequalities and indigenous peoples - Making the Sustainable Development Goals work for indigenous peoples during the European Development Days.

Although they are extremely diverse, indigenous peoples face common challenges due to exclusion and marginalisation that have economic, social, cultural and political dimensions. Socio-economic gaps between indigenous and non-indigenous people continue to be persistent or have been widening. Indigenous peoples also face additional threats from climate change, which disproportionally affects them.

Distinguished panelists will engage with these challenges, and those faced by government and private sector decision makers in advancing transformative change regarding inter-linked global agendas on development, indigenous peoples’ rights and climate change. The session will highlight the importance of a human rights based approach in furthering these agendas, for which indigenous peoples also play a unique role as change agents.

Save the date and join us for a stimulating debate on 8 June from 13.30 to 14.45. The ILO and the Danish Institute for Human Rights very much look forward to welcoming you to their Lab debate.
