ILO and European Commission reaffirm mutual partnership at 15th High Level meeting
The European Commission (Commission) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have held their 15th High Level meeting since the renewal of their Exchange of Letters in 2001. The meeting took place at the ILO Offices in Geneva and Brussels and online, and followed the strong reaffirmation of the social justice mandate of the ILO during its Centenary year.
The meeting was co-chaired by ILO Deputy Director-General for Field Operations and Partnerships, Moussa Oumarou, and the Director-General of DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the Commission, Joost Korte.
Participants discussed recent policy developments in their areas of expertise, and their response to the challenges related to transformative changes in the world of work, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic. The Commission and the ILO expressed their deep concern about the devastating socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on economies, enterprises, workers and employers around the world, in particular in fragile countries and regions, but also in the European Union. They stand united in their commitment to harness their partnership to support sustainable economic recovery, protect workers and help companies thrive again.
Both organizations also reviewed specific EU-ILO projects fostering decent work and noted with satisfaction that their cooperation has led to tangible improvements. During the meeting, a video on the EU-ILO partnership for development cooperation was launched.
Both institutions adopted Conclusions and reaffirmed their partnership and commitment to closely work together on issues of common concern in the year ahead.
