    FAIRWAY in Ethiopia supported Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Unions (CETU) to organize capacity building trainings for community peer educators and outreach workers

    In order to strengthen capacity of Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Unions (CETU) to organize potential, in-service and returnee migrant workers into the union and effectively advocate for the rights and welfare of migrant workers, FAIRWAY in Ethiopia entered into implementation agreement with CETU.

    Enabling access to justice for African domestic workers accused of ‘absconding’ and ‘theft’ in Lebanon

    The FAIRWAY Programme supported the Ethiopian community organization ‘Egna Legna Besidet’ to provide legal aid to more than 200 African migrant domestic workers, in order to clear the path for their return home.

    The ILO helps re-energize the Migrant Workers Office at the Kuwait Trade Union Federation

    The ILO launched a bi-monthly meeting programme at the Kuwait Trade Union Federation, convening migrant workers, representing at least sixteen migrant communities in Kuwait, and various national trade union leaders and coordinators, to discuss key challenges in labour migration in the country.

    Training to Kenya’s Ministry of Labour staff helps ensure better protection to workers in the country and abroad

    With the support of the ILO, migration experts in the East African region, and the Decent Work Team in Pretoria, the FAIRWAY Programme trained 30 labour and employment officers across Naivasha and Mombasa in Kenya. The workshops provide a critical foundation of the roles and responsibilities of such officers for safe, fair and orderly labour migration, and helps sensitize a pool of staff from which future labour attachés are drawn.

Recognizing the importance of the domestic work sector in Middle East, the ILO FAIRWAY developed this regional summary of the situation of domestic workers in the region.

    Thematic brief: Promoting internal labour market mobility in the Arab States

    This thematic brief was developed to further discussions during the Africa – Arab States Interregional Tripartite Meeting on Labour Migration on 15-16 November 2021. It sets out the rationale and promising practices for promoting internal labour market mobility, loosely defined as the ability to terminate employment, switch to a different employer, renew a work permit and/or leave the destination country without the approval of the employer, including during the contract period.

    ILO Partners the Government of Nigeria towards Reforming Recruitment Processes and Standardizing Operational Conduct of Private Employment Agencies (PEAs)

    Arising from observed institutional and operational challenges that pervades the recruitment industry in Nigeria, the Federal Government with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO) has successfully completed a revision of the Code of Conduct for Private Employment Agencies (PEAs), introducing revised guidelines to facilitate ethical conduct of licensed recruiters of outsourced personnel.
